| Each area in the state has specific needs and time frame requirements for coaching education. To address these needs the Regional Directors of Coaching Education are active from February through September of each calendar year. Their main goal will be to help address the specific educational needs within their Region. The Regions are delineated in this map. They will also aid in locating and training educational staff coaches so that E and D License courses can be conducted in local areas. Communication between clubs within an association or area will be improved to facilitate clinic requests and reduce cancellations.
These staff will work in concert with the Washington Youth Soccer Director of Coaching to improve the overall offering and implementation of the Washington Youth Soccer coaching education program:

John Wedge will be responsible for the Peninsula Region, which encompasses Washington Youth Soccer's District 4. John has been involved with and supportive of Youth Soccer in the United States since 1979 in a variety of roles.
John is a native of West Yorkshire, England where he grew up playing, and then coaching, soccer. In 1978, John graduated from Trinity and All Saints College, Leeds University with a B.Ed. degree in Human Movement.
In 1979 John immigrated to New York City where he taught Physical Education and coached soccer at Tilden H.S. in Brooklyn . He moved to Seattle , where he coached at Shoreline Community College from 1980 to 1984, winning the Northwest Colleges Coach of the Year Award in 1982. He was Coaching Director for the Washington State Soccer League in 1984 and 1985 before becoming Head Coach of both the men's and women's teams of the Valley Cities S.C., a semi-pro club based in Kent.
While he was general manager of the Tacoma Indoor Soccer Center , John also coached the Tacoma Wings to a National Amateur Men's Open Indoor title in 1987. He was the Washington State Men's Open Coach between 1987 and 1989 and won the Washington State “Player of the Year” award in 1988. Player coach of the Men's O-30 State Champions “Northend Internationals”, he also coached the Women's O-30 “Life's Events”, to State titles in 1989 and 1990.
John returned to high school coaching with Federal Way between 1991 and 1996 and was named the SPSL's Coach of the Year in 1992. He was the head coach of The Evergreen State College Men's team in 1996 and 1997. He helped create the Highline Heat soccer club in 1997 and was its first Coaching Director. He was concurrently Coaching Director of the Shorelake Soccer Club in 1998 and 1999, and President of Coerver Coaching of Washington from 1997 to 1999. John is currently Program Director with the Bainbridge Island Soccer Academy. He is responsible for camps, clinics and developing curricula.
John is a staff instructor with Washington Youth Soccer for whom he has conducted numerous coach licensing clinics since 1985. He holds a USSF “A” coaching license, a National Youth License, and the Premier Award of the NSCAA.

James Charette will be working with the Southwest Washington Region, Districts 5 and 7. Having lived in Washington State for 34 years, James has coached club soccer in Thurston County since 1993. He has had the opportunity to work with youth players at all levels in the Southwest Washington Region, including District and State leagues, State and Regional ODP and Youth National Team players.
James is eager to work with the current and future staff, and most importantly, to develop youth coaches through Washington Youth Soccer License clinics. His goal is to support each association in Districts 5 and 7, so that they have the coaching education, including Washington Youth Soccer Licensing Clinics, to support their clubs, coaches and players. It is important that the opportunities for coaching education are provided and that they are well attended.
James looks forward to this opportunity and welcomes any questions or ideas on how we can improve and grow the game in the Southwest Washington Region soccer community.
